Week 2 Group 8 Weekly Process

The design issues that we tackled this week involved ideation and conceptualizing with the new space. The important goals of the project were established and a design concept statement was created. It is as follows; “The goal of this design is to create an innovative and dynamic environment that is attractive and applicable to the senior wellness center’s patients and employees. The main concept behind our design is clarity. By using color to define spaces, and a simple floor plan we hope to organize people and draw them through the space without confusion or frustration.” Also, by further exploration and manipulation of square footages, a general floor plan was created for the first and second floors. This was done by individual work and then a collaborative team effort to decide on a more specific layout. With further investigation of the OCCC campus, materials have been selected to incorporate on to the exterior of the building with the rest of the campus, and a meeting was set up with the staff to visit the existing pool building and to gain further knowledge of the surrounding area.

Goals we met:
Ideation
Manipulation of square footages
3D sketches (interior/exterior)
Chose a building form
Rough floor plan
Made a decision on how to connect existing pool to new building/egress issues

Goals for the following week:
Organize CAD files of existing pool building
Begin finalizing floor plan with proper codes and egress stairs
Being selecting materials for interior spaces

We began to tackle the challenging situation of connecting the future building to the existing pool. We feel strongly that the idea and concept for this connection that we came up with this week will work well. While the architects formulated a unique shape for the building, the designer collaborated with their ideas to place certain expected spaces and square footages on each floor. Since this took up so much time, we hope to investigate the floor plan further next week, and work on a more finalized plan.
