PBS documentary examines America’s transportation infrastructure

The Modern Transit Project (MTP) recently held a screening of “Beyond the Motor City”, a very compelling and sometimes disturbing documentary about where we are as a country with respect to our national transportation system. Much of the video looks at the devastating results on places like downtown Detroit as a result of America’s auto and highway-centric culture and the elimination of our once world class rail system. The show also takes an in-depth look at how the rest of the world has left America decades behind in the development of high speed rail transit systems and rail transit in general. An honest and sobering look at where we stand as a nation at the beginning of the 21st Century with respect to an effective, energy efficient, modern national transportation system.
